The Costa del Sol will host the International Jazz Day festival, a three-day musical event that will take place in different locations in Torremolinos from Friday April 29 to Sunday May 1.

The jazz extravaganza will include a total of 20 free performances at venues including Casa de los Navajas, Hotel Pez Espada Gardens and Hotel Meliá Terrace.

The initiative is organized by the town hall, with the sponsorship of Cervezas San Miguel, and with the collaboration of the associations Aeplayas and Aehcos.

In addition to jazz recitals, which will incorporate swing, traditional, modern and jazz-fusion, the event will also feature performances at select city bars and at key points along the promenade, such as Plaza del Remo.

The program will feature some of the best national musicians and groups of the genre, including José Carra and his quintet, who will present their latest recording, Satellite.

Others include the Enrique Oliver Quartet, whose members include some of the most renowned musicians on the national jazz scene; and Carlos Sarduy and The Groove Messengers, a group whose leader has been described as “without a doubt one of the most active and versatile musicians on the Barcelona scene”.

The culmination of the festival will take place at the Hotel Pez Espada on May 1 at 9 p.m., with the presentation of the first National Jazz Guide Awards, an event organized on the occasion of Unesco’s International Jazz Day.

The National Jazz Guide is a new digital platform that promotes and offers information on the Spanish jazz scene, and the first edition saw over 170 nominations for the award for Best Jazz Musician in Spain. More information:
