The Arlington Jazz Festival is April 23-25

The 10th Arlington Jazz Festival will once again be presented virtually.

For this anniversary year, presenter Arlington Jazz has scheduled a series of hour-long concerts presented online over a period of three nights. The festival will be broadcast live from PBS Studios located in Westwood and will be available for real-time viewing on the Arlington Jazz Facebook event page.

The following musical artists will share their work in this virtual festival setting, scheduled to coincide with Jazz Appreciation Month which falls in April.

• Matlou Trio witness: 8 p.m. April 23. From Johannesburg, South Africa, pianist Witness Matlou is a composer and performer whose work is influenced by South African folk music, contemporary classical music, jazz and other world music. Matlou received his master’s degree from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, where he studied with Grammy-winning pianist Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, John Patitucci, George Garzone and Joe Lovano, with whom he performed at Lincoln Center and at the Monterey Jazz Festival. . Matlou also shared the stage with other artists such as Gary Burton, Yoron Israel, John Lockwood and Antonio Sanchez. Alongside Witness Matlou for the Arlington Jazz Festival, John Lockwood on bass and Lee Fish on drums.

• MIXCLA: 8 p.m. on April 24. MIXCLA is an Afro-Cuban jazz trio that has been headlining the 59th Monterey Jazz Festival, the 2016 Boston Celebrity Series sessions, the 2015 Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Boston Scullers Jazz Club in 2018 and 2020 and more. . MIXCLA is Gerson Lazo Quiroga on bass, Takafumi Nikaido on percussion and Zahili Gonzalez Zamora on piano.

• The Dan Fox Group: 8:00 p.m. April 25. Trombonist Dan Fox, the main organizer of the Arlington Jazz Festival, has assembled a group of local musicians to perform an ensemble of original music, as well as jazz and Brazilian standards. The following band members joining Fox have toured and recorded with a multitude of acclaimed acts: Jacques Schwarz-Bart (sax with D’Angelo and Roy Hargrove); Gregory Ryan (bass with Bobby Sanabria and Arturo O’Farrill); Alexei Tsiganov (piano with Esperanza Spalding and Antonio Sanchez); and Rafael Barata (drums with Hermeto Pascoal and Eliane Elias).
