Program of the Perth International Jazz Festival 2021
The Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) is bigger and more varied than ever in 2021.
The 2021 event brings new performance spaces, free community events and expansion to Busselton. It will offer the best for music lovers of all kinds, with performances aimed at jazz purists to those who enjoy jazz influenced sounds like funk, Latin, hip hop and beyond.
The celebrations begin with a free event at the State Theater Center featuring live sets from Dr Richard Walley’s Six Seasons with the Junkadelic Orchestra, award-winning Afro-Peruvian jazz group by Daniel Susnjar, and a live performance from Amsterdam by Tin Men and the Telephone, presenting a spicy combination of jazz tunes and tech called ‘GREATEST Show’.
PIJF’s hub for paid shows – The Rechabite – will host the Cotton Club Dance Party with the OZ Big Band, with an energetic 1920s swing to keep you rocking the night away.
National guests present throughout the weekend include Adelaide multi-instrumentalist Adam Page – best known for his multi-instrumental loop performances (and sound recording for “The Hobbit” films), improvisers Scott Tinkler and Julius Schwing from Bruny Island, Tasmania and awesome dance trio from Adelaide [email protected] The description.
Other highlights of Rechabite include a celebration of Helen Matthews, “WA’s first lady of jazz,” by Ali Bodycoat and Libby Hammer; and jazz saxophonist Jamie Oehlers presents the music of John Coltrane, with Ben Vanderwal on drums, Zac Grafton on bass and Harry Mitchell on piano.
Other locations have been added including the Cathedral Square and a secret rooftop in the CBD. “Grooves N Brews” in Northbridge Piazza will be transformed into an outdoor bar featuring artists like Liquid Project, Supathick, Trisk & Optamus Present: Prime Time and the Flewnt Boorloo Block Party.
