Pat Metheny Calls On Young Jazz Stars To Rework ‘Better Days Ahead’, Grammy Winner And To Top Billboard Charts

0

As the only musician to win GRAMMYs in twelve distinct categories, Pat MethenyThe passion of ‘seeking breathtaking new perspectives’ (NPR) at every turn is synonymous with his historically rich career – from embarking on sonic explorations in jazz, classical, rock and country to collaborating with legends of the genre like David Bowie, Herbie Hancock and Steve Reich. But, for Metheny, as much erasing the premise of the genre is a way of life, as much it follows its natural impulse to cross the generations.

On his new album SIDE-EYE NYC (V1.IV), released September 10 on BMG Modern Recordings, Metheny handpicked some of the most exciting and innovative new musicians on the New York scene. “I wanted to create an ongoing platform to accommodate a rotating cast of new generations of musicians who particularly caught my interest along the way,” explains Metheny. “From my early days in Kansas City, I benefited from so many older musicians who hired me, which gave me a chance to develop myself through the lens of their experiences.”

Better days ahead:

The latest offering from this SIDE-EYE project arrives today, a revamp of Metheny’s harmonically uplifting composition, “Better Days Ahead”. Anchor from his 1989 GRAMMY-winner and Billboard-topped Letter From Home collection, you can hear this Metheny classic performed in a whole new way. Pat says, “It’s fascinating to me which of the old songs has continued to interest new players as they come along, and this one has a shape and changes that people want to play and that they want to play.” want to talk. What’s cool here is how James has put together a whole different approach. He brought a vibe that set up a new way of looking at things. “

Metheny is joined on this new release by 26-year-old Blue Note recording artist James Francies on keyboards (previous collaborators include Questlove and Chance The Rapper) and GRAMMY-winning drummer Marcus Gilmore “It’s one thing natural and organic for me to play with them, “says Metheny.” They literally grew up listening to the recordings and playing these compositions as part of their early musical regimes. “
