Legendary jazz trumpeter James Morrison announces Hamer Hall show

To celebrate his 60th birthday, jazz maestro James Morrison has announced a tour that will celebrate the work of jazz legends.

Australian jazz musician James Morrison is touring Australia with his big band, celebrating the music of Ellington, Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and many more. Trumpet virtuoso James Morrison is recognized as one of the finest jazz musicians of his generation, performing alongside top jazz musicians and even performed the opening fanfare at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. His tour falls on the year of his 60th birthdayand anniversary and to celebrate this milestone, Morrison pays tribute to the jazz legends who shaped his career.

After being inducted into the Graeme Bell Hall of Fame in 2013 at the Australian Jazz Bell Awards, James Morrison’s international career made him the maestro he is today. His career has seen him as a presenter on Top Gear Australia, the bandleader of the world’s largest orchestra at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane and ARIA winner for Best Jazz Album. This tour pays homage to the many jazz greats who came before him, including Sinatra and Count Basie, but also includes a special tribute to his late mentor, Don Burrows.

“I’ve been blessed with so many great mentors and inspirational heroes – this tour is an opportunity to honor them and celebrate with some of Australia’s best,” says James Morrison. By his side on stage, singers Emma Pask and Darren Percival, as well as saxophonist Andy Firth, will bring undeniable energy and know-how to interpretations of jazz classics.
