Jazz drummer Ari Hoenig to perform at Whale Theater in Greystones
THE Ari Hoenig Trio will perform at the Whale Theater in Greystones on Saturday October 9 at 8 p.m.
ri Hoenig is a jazz drummer and composer, known for his unusual and intense approach to drums – emphasizing complex rhythms in direct harmony with the other members of the group.
He currently leads a group that performs regularly in New York jazz clubs.
Venues in which he performs include 55 Bar and Blue Note.
He also performs in equally acclaimed jazz venues around the world. The famous French pianist Jean-Michel Pilc joins him in the group.
Ari is particularly known for his drumming which is not relegated to keeping the tempo, or being a secondary issue to the music he is playing in, but rather for raising the drums as an indispensable part of the performance, such as many drummers such as Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette did it before him.
Renowned musician and teacher Hoenig has recorded with Mike Stern, Kenny Werner, Richard Bona, Dave Liebman, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman and the Jazz Mandolin Project to name a few. He has been a member of the Steinhardt Jazz faculty since 2009.
Tickets for the show are ⬠20 on Whaletheater.ie.
