How the circumstances are set for Jazz to make great strides – The Athletic

With a 110-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, the Utah Jazz erased the bitter taste of Sunday night’s loss to the Orlando Magic.

It was a beautiful and solid victory for Jazz. They took pictures when needed. They generated defensive stops when needed. When the Hawks pushed, the Jazz were able to get a split on the scoreboard whenever needed.

So, enough about that. Let’s talk about the big picture, with some observations on what Utah is, what it could be, and what the next few weeks in store.

A great opportunity

The victory over the Hawks is the first for Jazz to play 10 of 12 games at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The long stay at home is a chance for the Jazz to collect some victories. And it’s lucky for the Jazz to have an indulgent schedule – for the first time this season – after such a tough streak in their first 10 games.

Note: Utah’s schedule this week seems to be a little intimidating. The Hawks were just making the Eastern Conference Finals playoffs. The Indiana Pacers are always tough. The Miami Heat are one of the best teams in the league and just beat the Jazz last Saturday night. The Philadelphia 76ers have had a great start to the season.

But a closer look reveals circumstances that give the Jazz a potential advantage. Yes, they will still have to play good basketball to get victories. But the advantages remain.
